COVINGTON
Covington is coming to the forefront in 2025.
The largest city in Northern Kentucky, Covington plays a vital role in both the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan and its own state of Kentucky. Founded in 1815, Covington is distinguished by its unique mix of historic preservation and modern revitalization.
Covington holds a significant place in the tapestry of American history, particularly as a port city on the Ohio River. Its strategic location at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers facilitated its growth as a hub for trade and industry throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. According to the 2020 census, Covington’s population was 40,961, and the city spans approximately nearly 14 square miles.
The city is home to 17 National Register Historic Districts, showcasing an impressive array of architectural styles. Initiatives like the Covington Academy of Heritage Trades trains skilled craftspeople in restoring older homes and buildings. Another such historical gem is the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge. Completed in 1866, the bridge connects Covington to Cincinnati. It also served as the prototype for the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, also designed by Roebling.
MainStrasse Village is a charming and historically rich cultural district, with an identity deeply rooted in its German heritage. This part of town was meticulously revitalized in the late 1970s with a $2.5 million federal grant to emulate a 19th-century German village. This dedication to preservation earned it a National Historic District designation in 1983. The village’s distinctive character is showcased through its restored brick buildings, many dating from the mid-1800s, cobblestone streets, and iconic landmarks like the Carroll Chimes Bell Tower and the Goose Girl Fountain, creating a picturesque and highly walkable environment that attracts both locals and tourists.
Strasse Dog is in the heart of the MainStrasse Village. This friendly local shop provides a meticulously curated selection of high-quality products for dogs – premium foods and treats, tons of toys, and cute canine apparel. When you first walk into the store, you’ll find yourself greeted by friendly vibes and potentially, a friendly shop pup. Either way, you’re in for a treat. Strasse Dog stocks a variety of better options for dogs – no more dry kibble or fillers and questionable ingredients.
Need to take care of other needs your dog might have? Strasse Dog also provides professional grooming services by appointment. Get your pup pampered with a cut and a clip. Even if you don’t have a dog, find an excuse to come by.
